Dreams And Visions ; What to do about them

eyeIn this post I would like to further our discussion about spiritual dreams and visions.

We see in our Bibles that God has and always will speak to people this way. I have my theories as to why He does this, but only He really knows.

I am a dreamer surrounded by people who dream. This has helped me (tremendously) in my walk with God and others as well.

In my experiences with dreams and in helping interpret hundreds of dreams for others I am lead to discuss the three types of dreams that are given by God. I did a You tube video on the three places that dreams come from; 1.God  2. Self and the busyness of our minds (flesh)   3. The enemy.

In my experience there are three types of dreams and it is very important to know which is which.

  1. Corrective Dreams

These dreams and visions are meant to correct us from some error or way of thinking. The majority of my dreams over the last 20 years have been corrective dreams for me personally. God uses dreams to solidify what his word and Spirit are trying to tell us. In our flesh, we often resist change, so for me I am always grateful when God sends me a dream. Most of my deliverance has come from listening and agreeing with God when he shows me sin or wrong motives via dreams. Our flesh resists conviction, but a vivid dream from heaven should wake us up and straighten us out. If it doesn’t then you will probably stop dreaming all together. When you respond to Gods correction, He will give you more, and if you stop responding to Him, then he usually stops too.  If you pay attention and  prayerfully look , you will see that what he is showing you is true. (See Acts chapter 11 for an example of a corrective dream/vision)

2. Warning Dreams:

These dreams are given to show us what is happening in the spirit realm and what is about to happen if we do not listen. It shines a light on the schemes of the enemy and can bring more victories for the kingdom of heaven if people would respond to them properly! And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way. Matthew 2:12.

Many times over I have seen God try to warn people of calamity only to see them ignore Him, then get mad at him when calamity comes!

3.Prophetic Dreams:

These are the ones that every one wants. I believe God gives these types of dreams to those whom he can trust to seek Him about an interpretation. If we are unfaithful to Him concerning corrective and warning dreams, why would he give us prophetic sight for others?

And he (Moses) said, Hear now my words: if there be a prophet among you,I the Lord will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream.  Numbers 12:6

Prophetic dreams are dreams that depict and describe what will happen in the future ; even when people won’t listen or change, these dreams come to pass. This is something that is set in stone and in place by God.

I am amazed at how many times I have shared prophetic dreams with people and when they come to pass, the people are still without understanding and even defiant ! No one (including me) can manipulate prophetic utterances! We would be foolish to even try! ” And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told his brethren: and they hated him yet the more.” Genesis 37:5

Angie’s opinion:

I am always wary of literal dreamers! For me , in dreams ,God always uses symbolic actions and symbols that have literal meanings. I have had trances and visions that are literal, but even then symbolism is usually used. The Lord uses his word to confirm that he is showing us the spirit realm in our dreams and visions!

The spirit realm is another dimension that can not be seen with our natural eyes and usually will even trouble our flesh upon receiving vision into this realm.

Then thou scarest me with dreams, and terrifies me through visions: So that my soul (flesh) chooseth strangling, and death rather than my life. I loathe it ; I would not live always: let me alone, for my days are vanity. Job 7:14-15  This is a natural and common response to prophetic vision, but through much affliction comes great revelation!

Interpreting symbols:

The biggest challenge for dreamers always lies in proper interpretation. Here are some suggestions and what I do if I am unclear about the meaning.

1.Identify the symbols– For example if you dream you are sitting in a pile of money, it doesn’t mean you will win the lottery. It probably means you have a problem with covetousness or are dealing with greed.

2.Pay attention to detailSuch as attributes and characteristics of places, characters ,objects, animals, actions or conduct, emotions and feelings, colors and  even  numbers.

3.Tell a friend-Find someone you can trust to help you. Usually I get a better understanding as I am recounting the dream /vision out loud.

4.Apply to yourself first-  It is a big mistake to not apply what God is showing you to yourself first, after all, it is you that He is speaking to.

I hope this helps someone today. For me, the more I pray  and obey ,the more I dream. In the days we are in, getting hidden knowledge from God is a precious gift. It is one the purest forms of communication but it can be manipulated, denied and ignored. Misuse and abuse can lead to silence from heaven. “And when Saul inquired of the Lord, the Lord answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets.” 1 Samuel 28:6

Saul stopped listening and God stopped speaking to him, causing him to consult with a witch and thereby sealing his fate; the curse of death.

For in the multitude of dreams and many words there are also divers vanities; BUT FEAR THOU GOD.” Ecclesiastes 5:7

I hope this teaching helps in some way. Subscribe to my You tube channel for more on this topic. Angela Flippen
