THE PLIGHT OF BEING UNTEACHABLE

Yesterday I did a video teaching on false doctrine. While in thought and prayer about this subject,my spirit was lead to study the subject of being teachable, because it is this moral failure that drives people to the false, and pushes leaders to teach the false,at worst and at best to teach the basic milk all the days of our lives. We pour our time ,energy and virtue into people hoping for them to grow with Christ, thereby making them more powerful and effective in the kingdom, but there are very few whom respond with humility.

It sets the stage for “fluffy preaching”, and it leads to error.

Here are just a few scriptures that instruct us what to Teach and also what to do about unteachable people :

Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey (listen to ) them so that their work will be a joy,not a burden ,for that would be of no advantage to you. Hebrews 13:17

Now we ask you to respect those who work hard among you,who are over you in the Lord and who admonish you. 2 Thessalonians 5:12

Therefore ,rebuke them sharply so they will be sound in the faith. Titus 1:13

The first scripture reference is showing us that your leaders and mine must give an account to God for the way we have handled the persons whom sit under us. It puts the responsibility on the leaders shoulders to take these things seriously, our souls depend upon obedience in this area, thereby making it personal.

While the Holy Spirit is the force that corrects us and convicts us, there is strong scriptural evidence that God uses human authority to do so as well. Even leaders are and should be open to correction by other human beings. None of us have arrived’, so to speak. This creates a transparent relationship ,and does away with the religious spirit, whom is only concerned with outward appearance. It is my belief that being teachable is a must qualification for leadership.

It is also my belief that working with people who have no desire to repent is a complete waste of time.

General scriptures on being teachable :

Let the wise listen and add learning and let the discerning get guidance. Proverbs 1:5

Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge but he who hates correction is stupid. Proverbs 12:1

A wise son heeds his fathers instruction, but a mocker does not listen to rebuke. Proverbs 13:1

He who listens to life giving rebuke will be counted among the wise. Proverbs 15:31

Let a righteous man strike me – it is a kindness. Let him rebuke me – it is oil on my head. My head will not refuse it. Psalms 141:5

Wisdom that comes from above is easily entreated. -Willing to yield to reason James 3:17

Scripture tells us to not waste time on unteachable people. Jesus himself wasted no time on these types. He knows we can waste our whole lives, resources and energy on people who have no desire to really hear truth. He goes so far as to say that they will do us harm.

Whoever corrects a mocker invites insult. Whoever rebukes a wicked man incurs abuse. Proverbs 9:7-8

Rebuke a wise man and he will love you. Instruct a wise man and he will be wiser still. Proverbs 9:9

Do not give that which is Holy to the dogs (rebellious); do not cast your pearls before swine (unclean), If you do ,they may trample them under their feet and turn and tear you to pieces. Matthew 7:6

Do Not speak to a fool for he will scorn (hate) the wisdom of your words. Proverbs 23:9

A mocker resents correction; he will not consult the wise.Proverbs 15:12

I could go on and on with scripture on this subject, but you get the point.

As the end times are upon us, we see that time is short. Every thing we do for God must count. The litmus test That God gave me about correcting others is this ; I must love them. If I do not speak to you concerning the kingdom, it means I do not care. Scriptures tell us that we will not only be wasting our time and energy, but that very often the unteachable will conclude the relationship by turning against you.

The most important attitude that we need to display in the last days is true humility. We are called to not only be ‘hearers of the Word’, ‘but to be doers of the word’.

If this helps one leader understand and accept that it is our responsibility to determine who is ‘Worthy’ of correction, then it will be worth the time I have spent to say these things. It is written that we must bypass and disengage from people who are unteachable. If we do not ,they will harm us and those around them. We are to protect the sheep, first and foremost.

“He gave them power against unclean spirits,to cast them out,and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease… Jesus sent them forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not (yet) into the way of the gentiles, and into any city of the samaritans enter ye not:But rather go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel, and as you go preach saying, the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick cleanse the lepers ,raise the dead, cast out devils…And into whatsoever city or town ye shall enter, inquire in it who is Worthy. . But if they be not worthy let your peace return to you.And whosoever shall not receive you,nor hear your words, when you depart from that house, shake off the dust of your feet (as a testimony against them), Verily I say unto you,it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgement , than for that city… Matthew 10
